Join this fantastic circumnavigation of Spain and Portugal’s storied coasts, with stops to explore the incredibly rich heritage and cultures of the region. Marvel at the extraordinary Sagrada Familia Church, Barcelona’s most famous landmark, visit Granada’s stunning Alhambra and the Great Mosque of Cordoba, then sail through the Strait of Gilbraltar, which connects the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Ocean. After discovering the charms of Sevilla, you’ll cruise up the Portuguese coast to Porto to sample velvety port wine and stroll through its lovely Old Town. Heading back into Spain, you’ll explore the holy city of Santiago de Compostela, discover the pintxos bars of San Sebastian, and end the cruise in Bilbao.
DAYS 1-5 BARCELONA TO CARTAGENA After touring Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, embark and cruise to Valencia, where bustling plazas lie around every corner of the Old Town and the central market is always abuzz with activity. In Cartagena, discover the city’s Roman heritage at the 2,000-year-old amphitheater and excavated acropolis. You’ll also explore the Castillo de la Concepción, a medieval fortress with sweeping views. DAYS 6-9 GRANADA TO SEVILLA In the medieval city of Granada, visit the Alhambra, one of the most breathtaking structures in all Europe. DAYS 12-16 SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA TO BILBAO Heading back into Spain, make a pilgrimage to UNESCO-designated Santiago de Compostela, which once rivaled Rome and Jerusalem as a holy site. Oviedo, capital of Asturias province, was never invaded by the Moors, and its three 9th century churches have retained their pre-Romanesque style. On your last day, you can visit San Sebastian, with its lively pintxos bars (the Basque version of tapas), or head to Bilbao for a guided tour of the Guggenheim Museum. Depart from Bilbao on Day 16.
