DAYS 1-4 PAPEETE, TAHITI, TO FAKARAVA From Papeete, head to Fakarava, a sanctuary for rare birds, plants, and crustaceans in the remote and pristine Tuamotus. Stroll along pink-sand beaches and visit the island’s black pearl farm. DAY 5-10 MARQUESAS ISLANDS Fatu Hiva is wild and spectacularly beautiful, with narrow ravines, deep gorges, luxuriant valleys, and sheer cliffs plunging into the splashing surf. On Hiva Oa, visit the grave of the artist Paul Gauguin and the archaeological ruins of the Tiu, ancestors of most of the Hivaoan
tribes.
