Amazon River Expedition ABOARD THE ARIA OR AQUA NERA

The Amazon River is one of Earth’s grandest wildernesses. On this 7-night cruise, journey deep into its rainforests and discover a world of neon-bright birds, playful monkeys, graceful hawks and herons, and millions of butterflies. Try your hand at fishing for piranha, visit riverside communities, and enjoy night excursions by skiff. Shorter 3- and 4-day journeys are also available as extensions to group trips in Peru.

DAYS 1-4 IQUITOS TO NAUTA (December-May) Embark in Iquitos and cruise along the Amazon to the Yarapa River. Keep your binoculars ready to spot tropical songbirds, black-collared hawks, and sloths. Fish for Amazonia’s notorious piranhas and enjoy a jungle walk, on the lookout for endemic flora and fauna. Near Nauta, witness one of the great spectacles of the Southern Hemisphere, the birthplace of the Amazon River.

DAYS 5-8 UCAYALI Watch for pink freshwater dolphins while cruising the Ucayali, the Amazon’s largest tributary, and fish along the black waters of the Pacaya, with an excursion at dusk to search for the nocturnal wildlife that comes out after dark. Jungle walks, canoeing, swimming, and kayaking excursions are also available, and you’ll visit a remote Amazonian village.
