Westward & Catalyst

Stella Australis & Ventus Australis Tailor-made for exploring the remote southern tip of South America, the 210-guest Stella Australis and her sister ship, the Ventus Australis , have the extreme maneuverability necessary to navigate narrow fjords and channels where few cruise ships can venture. Both offer cabins in several categories, with twin or double beds, a large picture window, and a private bathroom. The open-top deck offers panoramic views, the dining room serves meals at a single seating, and there are three lounges. A fleet of Zodiacs carries passengers ashore. These vessels are perfect for exploring Patagonia’s secluded islands and rocky beaches. Darwin’s Route: Cruising Through Patagonia, p. 11

Traditional Turkish Gulet The yachts we charter are traditional wooden motor-sailers called gulets, especially designed for cruising this beautiful coastline. They are typically 60-90 feet in length, are twin masted, and feature teak hulls and decks and mahogany interiors. There are four to six double cabins, each with private toilet and shower. The food prepared and served on board features many local specialties, including fresh-caught seafood. To maximize time for exploration, we normally proceed under motor power. When conditions permit, and at the captain’s discretion, sails will be raised. Kayaks and snorkeling equipment are available to use. The gulets feature a crew of four, including the captain.

Both the Westward and Catalyst are historic wooden vessels that carry just 8 to 12 guests respectively. Originally designed for exploration and marine research, these nimble boats can maneuver around icebergs, follow whales, get close to glaciers, and tuck into tiny coves most passenger vessels wouldn’t even dream of approaching. Delicious meals, including freshly-caught seafood, are served by the chef in the warm, wood-paneled salon, and a fleet of kayaks on board add to the spirit of exploration and discovery.
