Alaska: Journey to Sitka ABOARD THE WESTWARD
Experience southeast Alaska’s glacial wilderness in cozy comfort aboard a historic 86-foot wooden vessel that hosts just eight guests. Each journey is flexible, depending on weather and wind conditions, but all bring you to an incredible array of coves, bays, intertidal zones, and remote villages between Sitka, Petersburg, and Juneau. Get ready to spend your days kayaking in protected coves, hiking in glacial landscapes, and encountering an amazing variety of wildlife. Private charters are also available.
DAYS 1-8 ON CRUISE Embark on the vessel and make your way to your first anchorage. Travel through canyons and fjords, stopping at beautiful anchorages on Admiralty, Baranof, and Kupreanof islands, observing bears, whales, eagles, and more along the way. As you hike or kayak, you’ll be accompanied by the on-board naturalist, who shares his or her knowledge about the
fauna and flora of the area. Each trip varies depending on the weather; some highlights may include watching brown bears feasting on returning salmon, soaking in hot springs, listening to whale song with the boat’s on-board hydrophone, and cruising close to the face of Dawes or LeConte Glacier, the southernmost calving tidewater glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. Disembark on Day 8.
